We sat next to each other yesterday, in silence. I’m not sure you saw me, but I saw you. I could tell you were deep in thought. Your phone poised perfectly in your hand and your legs crossed with tapping toes. No smile across your lips, but contemplation in your eyes.
Maybe you were dreaming, planning and scheming. Maybe you were pondering, wondering and analyzing. You may have been longing, seeing things you wish defined you.
None the less, I saw you. I saw the way the sun highlighted your hair and the breeze caressed your skin. I sent them there to sooth your soul.
The traffic light turned red just to give you a moment to breathe in the song, the sounds. I whispered peace over you then.
The smile from the barista, the nod from the passerby, the wave from the neighbor – I sent them to show you that you are noticed. You are seen.
I have not ignored your pleas, nor have I misheard your prayers. You are not overlooked. I know your fears and worst nightmares because I watch over you as you dream. I cry tears of victory when you take risks and succeed because I planted those seeds of vision in you long ago. I wince when you fall, gasp when you are wounded, reach for you when you search in the dark.
I see you. Always.
In fact, I can’t take my eyes off of you. You are so lovely, divinely radiant. You, dear one, are captivating. I was there while you were formed and I’ve never left your side all these years.
I gave you those quirks, those traits, those hopes and dreams as a reflection of my creativity. You are a perfect display of splendor. You make me smile.
You may not see things the way I do. That’s ok. We may sit in silence for many days to come, that’s ok too. You don’t have to see me for me to see you, in fact, you don’t have to love me, for me to love you.
I’ve already traded heaven and earth for you. I love you that much, and I just wanted to send this note to let you know. I see you.
You are known and you are loved my valentine.
