Phew. This is a big one. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard the words “you don’t know what you’re talking about” or “you don’t get it”. And those words would silence me, quickly. In fact one only has to allude to those lies and the tape would be pulled over my mouth. When speaking up in contrast, to stand up with our words against a popular opinion or an injustice almost always evokes a backlash. If you’re like me, those backlashes are frightening enough to keep me silent.
the lie: I don’t know what I’m talking about. I have nothing worthy to add.
There was a moment in my life where I legitimately believed that I had nothing worthy to add, that no one would want to hear my thoughts. And that corrosive lie did more than keep me silent. It started deleting my ideas, my creativity and my ability to use what had been placed inside of me. I was dying emotionally and spiritually. Until Jesus go all up in my business and said – “we’re not done, you and I, we’re not done”. Since then I’ve learned to listen to him more, learned to let Him influence my ideas, my ideals, and my thoughts. AND I’ve learned to let him show me when to speak out about what he has shared with me.
Nothing has brought me more freedom.
What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. Matthew 10:27
